Statistics August 2001

Dogs and Cats arrive at Battersea from lots of different sources…

from the Police, Dog Wardens, Blue Cross, PDSA, RSPCA, from the public, from vets and the Social Services and, of course, from births in the Home itself!

We keep constant track of the ins and outs at Battersea and at our two country kennels at Old Windsor and Brands Hatch with daily, monthly and yearly statistics that show all the animals which have arrived or left, or who are still resident in the Home.

REMEMBER:

Battersea DOES NOT have a time limit for the animals in their care - no happy or healthy dog or cat which is suitable for rehoming is ever put to sleep, no matter how long it may take to find them a new home.

However, some of the dogs and cats that come into the Home are either in very poor condition, very ill or have severe behaviour problems and unpredictable temperaments. In these cases, if it is not possible for us to rehome the dog or cat, the extremely difficult decision is made to put these animals to sleep. This is the saddest part of our work.
