Lost dogs and cats

The Lost Dogs and Cats Line is a special service for owners that have lost their dog or cat, or have found a dog or cat, within the M25 area. The service is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.

As our name suggests we care for cats as well as dogs, in fact 25% of the strays brought to us are cats. To ensure these cats have a chance to go back to their rightful owners the Lost Dogs and Cats Line works for cats too.

Over 3 000 stray dogs and cats were reunited with their owners in 2005, thanks to the Lost Dogs and Cats Line. The service was launched in July 2000 in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police. It operates from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, and is manned by a dedicated team of five staff. They use a special computer system to log reports of dogs and cats lost within the M25, and try to match them to reports of dogs and cats found in the same area. In fact, the Line received over 9 000 reports of lost dogs and cats during 2005.

A further 631 dogs were reunited without even having to come to the Home. Being able to reunite a lost dog or cat with his owner before he reaches Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has many benefits, such as reducing stress for both the animal and the owner and relieving the impact on the already over-stretched facilities of police stations and Battersea.
