Battersea's country kennels in Berkshire

Old Windsor (previously named Bell Mead Kennels) has been one of the country centres of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home since 1979. Old Windsor - Pipen kennels

Meet some of Old Windsor's residents looking for new homes.

The boarding kennels and training school for kennel maids ceased boarding and training in 1998 and 1999. The centre operates exactly the same as the Home in London, only on a slightly smaller scale.

BOW kennels - outside view The centre recently underwent a refurbishment enabling standards to match those of Battersea in London and to increase the animal capacity. The new facilities include a reception, shop, 92 sales kennels, a veterinary clinic and convalescence kennels.

Old Windsor - outside close up view of kennels - reopening in 2001There are between 70 and 100 dogs available for rehoming at any one time and approximately 20 cats. There are various sizes of dogs available for rehoming, but lots of them are more suited to a semi-rural or country home. Dogs move around the three Battersea centres, and Old Windsor is often able to find a more suitable home for certain dogs than would be possible in London.

opening of BOW in 2001The new buildings were officially opened by our President, Prince Michael of Kent, in May 2001.
