Rescue OrganisationsThere are many other organisations that work alongside Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in animal welfare, many of which we work closely with behind the scenes. Here are just a selection of our friends in animal rescue and welfare. 
Animals WorldwideAnimals Worldwide has been established to assist in the worldwide endeavour to bring cruelty to animals to an end. It is clear from the reports of tourists returning to the UK from overseas destinations that there is a keen interest in animal welfare and related issues and that experiences can literally make or break a holiday. 
ASPCAThe American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) exists to promote humane principles, prevent cruelty and alleviate pain, fear and suffering in animals. 
The Blue CrossThe Blue Cross aims to ensure the welfare of companion animals by providing practical care, highlighting the benefits of companionship between animals and people, and promoting responsibility towards animals in the community. 
Cats ProtectionFounded in 1927, Cats Protection is the UK's oldest and largest feline charity 
Celia Hammond Animal TrustOver the last twenty five years former super-model Celia Hammond has rescued, neutered and re-homed many thousands of stray and abandoned animals. 
Chilterns Dog Rescue SocietyChilterns Dog Rescue Society was formed in 1963 to rescue unwanted and homeless dogs and to provide accommodation until such time as permanent homes can be found. Anim-Mates Anim-Mates is a group of animal lovers, whose sole aim is to rehome animals, who through no fault of their own have found themselves without a home or family to care for them. Prior to being rehomed they are fostered by Anim-Mates. 
Dogs TrustDogs Trust is the new name for the NCDL (National Canine Defence League). Dogs Trust have always campaigned on dog-welfare related issues to ensure a safe and happy future for our four-legged friends. 
East Galway Animal Rescue (EGAR)EGAR - Ireland's only Bull Breed Rescue. We re-home to the UK as well as long as the dog in question is not covered by the DDA. 
The Mayhew Animal HomeThe Mayhew Animal Home is an animal home and humane education and training centre National Animal Welfare Trust The Trust, founded in 1971, operates rescue centres for unwanted, ill-treated and abandoned animals and birds. Its Headquarters and London and Home Counties Rescue Centre is just outside Watford in Hertfordshire. 
RSPCASince its humble beginning in 1824 - as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - the RSPCA has worked tirelessly to promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals. 
Second Chance Animal TrustSecond Chance Animal Trust was founded in September 1995 after the closure of the local animals home in Norwich. With this in mind SCAT started to raise money for a new animal's home. While doing this SCAT achieved a successful rehoming program, including vet and pre-home checks. 
Swindon & District Animal HavenAfter 20 years of trials and tribulations, the animal loving Warwick family have finally realised their goal and opened a much needed animal sanctuary for Swindon Wiltshire. Thornberry Animal Sanctuary Thornberry Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1988 by Stephen Bamford, who sold his home to buy the land on which the sanctuary stands; turning his childhood 'hobby' of rescuing and caring for animals into his life's work. 
Wood Green Animal SheltersWood Green Animal Shelters have three rescue centres in and around the South East of England. The original shelter where the Charity first began in 1924 is in a house in Wood Green, London. 
Assisi Animal SanctuaryAssisi Animal Sanctuary provides rescue and long term care for abused, neglected and abandoned small domestic animals. At any given time the Sanctuary is home to 100 animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs. 
Gloucestershire Animal Welfare Association and Cheltenham Animal ShelterOur purpose is to provide a safe, secure haven to all animals in plight. Our mission is to return to health the sick, find homes for the lost and give dignity to the aged 
Edinburgh Dog & Cat HomeThe Home is one of the few independent homes in Scotland taking in many hundreds of stray and unwanted dogs and cats every year. 
Friends of Animal LeagueThe Friends Of Animals League (F.O.A.L) has as its aims to take in as many sick, distressed and unwanted animals as possible; to restore them to health and happiness, and to place them in good (vetted) homes. 
Gables Farm Dogs' & Cats' HomeGables Farm is an animal charity that has been sheltering and rehoming dogs and cats for nearly 100 years. 
Jersey SPCA Animals' ShelterOur mission is to prevent cruelty, promote knowledge, and provide for aged, sick, lost and unwanted animals. 
Margaret Green Foundation TrustMGFT was founded in 1965 to rescue, care for, and rehome unwanted, abandoned and cruelly treated animals. Operating in Dorset and Devon, we have at least 400 animals across our three sanctuaries at any given time including equines, farm animals, dogs, cats, furries, rodents, hedgehogs and various aviary birds & wildlife. 
North Shore Animal LeagueNorth Shore Animal League International is a UK-based charity who are working towards a world where no companion animal suffers or dies due to lack of money, lack of education or a lack of someone who cares. 
Scottish SPCAThe Scottish SPCA has been caring for and striving to prevent cruelty to Scotland's animals for 166 years. 
Animal Care (Lancaster, Morecombe & District)Animal Care, Lancaster, England, was formed in 1978 by a small number of dedicated people who looked after stray dogs and cats in their own homes. Over a period of time, kennels were rented and the number of animals increased. In 1987, Blea Tarn Kennels were acquired and then refurbished to accommodate 25 dogs, 24 cats and a large variety of other animals. The kennels were officially opened on the 19th March 1988. 
Animal RescuersDirectory of animal rescue organisations across the UK. Ashbourne & District Animal Welfare Society Ashbourne Animal Welfare is dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of stray and unwanted cats and dogs. We operate from our own purpose-built rescue centre - The Ark - near Ashbourne, in Derbyshire. 
Bath Cats & Dogs HomeBath Cats and Dogs Home is a registered charity based at Claverton Down, near the University of Bath. We are one of the largest re-homing centres in the UK with over 2,500 unwanted cats, dogs and small animals relying upon us every year. 
Bolton Destitute Animal's ShelterThe Destitute Animal Shelter is a rescue charity dedicated to caring for the lost, stray and abandoned dogs and cats of the Bolton area. We have a non-destruction policy and are committed to reducing the unwanted cat and dog problem in this area by neutering every animal that we re-home. 
Border Collie Trust UKSituated in the heart of Staffordshire, our purpose built kennels are our base and rescue centre for the work the Trust undertakes throughout the UK in the care, rescue and rehoming of Border Collies & Collie X's The Animals' Refuge, Carlisle 
Dublin SPCAThe Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a registered charity, established in 1840 to prevent cruelty to animals and is now Ireland's largest animal welfare organisation. Cruelty, neglect, accidental injury and sickness to animals continues today - and we are still here dealing with these problems. 
Fen Bank Greyhound SanctuaryFen Bank Greyhound Sanctuary, near Skegness in South Lincolnshire, was established in December, 1997 by Sandra Miller. The Sanctuary, which obtained independent registered charity status in 1998, was designed and built by Shaun Hooker and provides comfortable and spacious accommodation for 28 dogs. 
Greyhound Rescue West of EnglandGreyhounds make wonderful family pets in the right homes. They have affectionate and patient temperaments and contrary to popular opinion, don't require vast amounts of exercise or food. Animal Concern (Bristol & District)Holly Hedge Sanctuary was first registered as a charity in 1982, although it's founder, Pauline Leeson, has dedicated her whole life to animal welfare. Until 1992, when kennels were purchased and became Holly Hedge Sanctuary, Pauline worked from her own home and with the support of foster carers. Her aim has always been to provide a safe haven for animals until caring permanent owners can be found and this continues to be the purpose of the charity today. HULA Animal Rescue HULA animal rescue is a registered charity which was formed in 1972, and has been established for 32 years. We provide Sanctuary for Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, and other domestic animals until new homes can be found. We also have a number of resident animals including Goats, Pigs, Sheep, Cows, Ponies, and a Donkey who are permanently retired here. 
ISPCAIrish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals 
Labrador Lifeline TrustThe Labrador Lifeline Trust is a Registered Charity with an operating area of Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Middlesex and Lincolnshire. Our helpers are all unpaid volunteers and all money raised is used in the rehoming and welfare of our dogs. 
Leicester Animal AidLeicester Animal Aid (LAA) is an animal charity that provides unwanted and homeless dogs and cats with immediate shelter, sanctuary, food and health care and the opportunity for permanent and safe re-homing with responsible and loving pet owners. 
Leitrim Animal WelfareLeitrim Animal Welfare was established in 1997 by David and Christine Coulson and has developed into one of the largest rescue centres in Ireland, housing up to 100 dogs at any one time at our Drumkeerin base in North Co. Leitrim. Manchester and District Home for Lost Dogs We take in over 7000 dogs every year, and have been doing so for 113 years. We are always looking for caring permanent and foster homes for our dogs and often have over 150 dogs that are awaiting to find that perfect family. 
Newcastle upon Tyne Dog and Cat ShelterThe Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter has been in operation since 1896, offering our services to the public. It is thanks to your kind support that we have been able to continue with the good work we do for the stray, neglected, injured and abandoned animals throughout the North East. 
Raystede Centre for Animal WelfareThe Raystede Centre was founded by Miss Raymonde-Hawkins in 1952 to prevent and relieve cruelty to animals and to protect them from unnecessary suffering. Around 1500 unwanted and abandoned animals arrive at the centre annually. Dogs, cats and other small companion animals are found new caring homes while others remain in Raystede's care for the rest of their days. Retired Greyhound Trust For more than 30 years our nationwide army of volunteers have been finding loving homes for greyhounds (nearly 35,000 so far!). We rescue needy greyhounds and take care of them until appropriate homes can be found. We are the only National Charity which concentrates all its efforts on improving the lot of ex-racing greyhounds. St Francis Home for Animals We look after and re home homeless and lost dogs of all ages and types.We lavish care and attention on them all. We are proud of the fact that within a short while the sad, lost and frightened dogs learn, often for the first time in their lives, that there are gentle, kind and loving humans around them in whom they can trust. 
USPCAThe Society, a registered charity, is the principal animal welfare organisation in Northern Ireland and it's views are widely regarded by the Media, Local Government and Members of the Legislative Assembly as the definitive voice on all matters relating to the welfare of animals. Sighthound Welfare Trust Sighthound Welfare Trust (also known as SWT) is a registered charity that committed to improving the welfare of sighthounds in the UK, Ireland and Spain. We promote responsible ownership, raise awareness of sighthound welfare issues and support the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of sighthounds. 
The Swan SanctuaryThe Swan Sanctuary is a charity dedicated to the care and treatment of swans and waterfowl with an established reputation, not only within the British Isles but worldwide. Greenwich Rabbit Rescue Greenwich Rabbit Rescue is based in south east london, taking in unwanted rabbits and g/pigs. 
Hyndburn Stray Dogs in NeedAll our dogs are strays. After spending a week in the local kennels with no owner in sight we try to foster what dogs we can or rehome them direct from the kennels. 
Norfolk and Suffolk Animal TrustStarted in 1979, NASA Trust rescue and rehome Dogs, Cats, and Small Pets at our centre in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. |
