The biggest department at the Home with over 40 staff to take care of our dogs and cats

Kennels

Who is our dogs' best friend? The Kennel Hand.

Kennels is the biggest department at Battersea Dogs Home. We have over 40 staff just at the London site whose job it is to take care of our dogs' every need. We can be looking after  300 to 600 dogs at any one time.

To the dogs, the kennel hand is the best friend they have while at Battersea.

You might think that kennelling a dog is just about feeding and cleaning. Well, obviously these are very important, but there's a whole lot more besides.
Just for a moment try to see the world through a dog's eyes. Who greets you each morning, bringing your breakfast and cleaning your kennel? Who breaks up the monotony of the day by giving you a treat, playing with a toy with you or teaching you a new trick? Who settles you down in a clean, comfortable bed at night? That's all the job of the kennel department.

It is our job to make every dog's stay at Battersea as pleasant as it can possibly be. It can be very hard work, but we love it.

Find out what a day in the life of a Kennel Hand is like.
