It's very simple to re-home a dog or a cat from The Dog's Home and there are good reasons why this can often be preferable to buying a pet from another source.

Our chief concern at The Dog's Home Battersea is that the dogs and cats should go to permanent homes where they will be loved and well cared for - for the rest of their lives.

All the dogs and cats are here because their owners couldn't, or more often wouldn't care for them.

We ask anyone who is interested in rehoming a Battersea animal to visit us at Battersea, Bell Mead or Brands Hatch in person. Bring along everyone who lives with you as the dog or cat you choose will need to get on with your whole family. If you are looking for a dog and already have one, you should bring it along too and please bring proof of identity (for example, a driving license). If you live in rented accommodation you will need to show proof that you are allowed to keep a dog or cat. And if you have owned a dog or cat before, a letter of recommendation from a vet would be useful. It may also be necessary for a member of our staff to visit your home before you can rehome a dog.

When you arrive at Battersea you will be asked to fill in an application form and will then be interviewed by one of our Rehoming Staff. Finding you the right dog is pretty simple, thanks to our new 'computer matching' software which will process your information and provide a list of the most suitable dogs for you to look at.

You should allow yourself at least three hours here (probably longer at weekends) as it can get very busy. Dogs and cats are usually ready to go to their new home on the same day, unless we need to visit your home first. In most cases, a Home Visitor will come to see you in the first three months to make sure your new friend has settled in and to help with anything you're unsure of.

When you have chosen a dog or cat, our veterinary nurses will advise you on health care and vaccinations and every dog and cat is microchipped to help locate them, if they ever get lost. All cats are neutered, and any dog that hasn't been will be given a voucher to save you money off the cost of having it done by your own vet.

Dogs are £70 and cats are £40.

Please note: Dogs and cats come and go every day so we cannot tell you in advance which dogs/cats or breeds we have here at a certain time.
