Tigga is a 1-2 year old male Lurcher who has not yet been neutered. He came in to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as a stray in May 2007. He was referred to the Behaviour Unit because of his chase issues with other dogs and potential for over-stimulation in play. Tigga is a friendly, scatty but intelligent lad who loves the company of people.
Tigga is looking for:
- Owners will need to have owned dogs previously, preferably lurcher/active greyhound types as Tigga needs someone who understands the breed characteristics.
- Tigga needs a multi carer household due to his potential for overbonding.
- Due to his excitable and boisterous nature, Tigga is not suitable to live with children or have visiting children in his new home, however older teenagers may be considered depending on experience.
- Tigga is looking for a home in a semi rural/ rural location with an adequately sized and securely fenced garden with access to low dog populated exercise areas
- Ideally he would live in a house, though a large ground floor flat may be considered depending on layout and location.
- Tigga does enjoy interacting with other dogs but, like many sighthounds, is very stimulated by movement and loves chasing other dogs, particularly smaller ones. Owners must be prepared to socialise him with a variety of suitable dogs while incorporating focus training such as recall.
- He could possibly live with another (female) dog of a similar size to him if she would be able to cope with his over-the-top moments and maybe even teach him some manners.
- Tigga has not been tested with a cat but due to his high chase drive, he is highly unlikely to be suitable to live with a cat.
Tigga is a fun and excitable boy and owners with a fondness for the lurcher character will really enjoy his character. Tigga is great fun to be around and will be very rewarding to work with for the right family.
Tigga is at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, London. Pleased call the Behaviour Unit on 0207 627 7884 if you are interested in Tigga, or email us on [email protected] and quote reference 2007/ 02635. Tigga will need some further training in his new home. To receive advice and guidance regarding this training from the Behaviour Unit staff that have worked with him, potential owners should be prepared to come into the Dogs Home for a minimum of two visits.
