Of late Battersea has seen an increase of Siberian Huskies arriving at the Home. We find that with many breeds, people tend to acquire them for various reasons, one being for their stunning appearance but unfortunately do not have an understanding of particular breed traits and training needed to maintain such dogs, therefore leading to people being unable to cope with what they have taken on. Siberian Huskies are definitely one of the breeds that fall under this category, for they are extremely beautiful but in inexperienced hands will run rings around its owners.
In Character Huskies are gentle and playful but wilful and mischievous at the same time. They tend to get bored easily and don't really like to be left alone, which is when the howling kicks in for attention. They are very intelligent and trainable but when training a Husky, patience is a virtue, as they will only obey a command if they see the point, however consistency is the key. This breed will take full advantage if allowed.
If socialised from puppyhood with other pets, Huskies interact very well. But as with all dogs their suitability to live with children or other pets is dependant on the individual dog rather than the breed.
All in all the Siberian Husky is an extremely elegant and it intelligent dog, who can make a fantastic companion for someone or family who are aware of its needs and characteristics that come with a Husky.
