Bonnie was brought in to Battersea as her owner became ill and could no longer look after her. A family member brought Bonnie in and had been looking after her for a while so she has had a very unsettled time recently. Bonnie is looking for patient and understanding owners who will give her the time and space needed for her to settle in a new home. Bonnie is nervous of new people and environments but once she knows you she is very sweet and affectionate. Like many Lurchers Bonnie does not know what to do with toys but loves food, she will need all basic training from scratch and owners will need to have built a good bond before doing any training. Bonnie lived in a kennel in her previous home so will need to be housetrained and may take time to get used to a home environment and all the different surfaces and noises etc. Bonnie ideally needs experienced dog owners who are used to nervous dogs, knowledge of Lurchers or sighthounds would be an advantage. Due to her nervous nature Bonnie cannot live with children but should be fine in a quiet home with teenagers. Once housetrained and settled Bonnie could be left for short periods, she loves nothing more than curling up on a comfy bed after a good run around. Cannot live with cats and owners to be sensible around small fluffy animals and pets, Bonnie may need muzzling if off lead as she has a high chase and hunt drive. Bonnie is undersocialised and this also includes around other dogs, she can be a bit defensive and does not tolerate silly juvenilles leaping all over her. She would need to be the only dog in her new home and owners must not force her to interact with dogs on a walk, she feels more comfortable avoiding other dogs and isn't looking for any trouble. In time we are sure Bonnie will make a loving companion but owners must not expect too much too soon. If you feel you can offer this shy and sad dog a home please contact the rehoming department at Old Windsor on 01784 494443.
