Rosco is a 9 month old German Shepherd Dog Cross and was brought to Battersea by his owners as they were not allowed dogs in a rented property. Sadly he has spent most of his life in kennels and will need patient owners prepared for the time he may take to settle in a home environment. Rosco is very loving, boisterous and cheeky we guarantee this dog will make you smile and brighten up your life. Rosco is very intelligent and enthusiastic, therefore training him should be easy. He loves toys, food and attention so you will have good motivators to help you. Whilst he has been in kennels Rosco has learnt some basic commands but does need to learn some manners, for example not everyone loves dogs that jump up and lick you face on the first meeting! Rosco can be strong on the lead but is currently learning to be better with the aid of a headcollar which he has taken too very well. As Rosco has been at Battersea since he was a puppy he is not housetrained so new owners must be happy to start this when they get him home. He has been cage trained whilst being here which we advise new owners to continue as this will help with housetraining but also Rosco likes the security of his den when being left on his own. Once settled and fully housetrained Rosco could be left for short periods but he is a dog that craves human company and would not like owners that are out at work for the majority of the day. Being a young dog Rosco is full of energy and mischief, new owners will need to be active to provide him with the exercise and mental stimulation he needs, If you are looking for a quiet couch potato companion dog then this is not the dog for you! Rosco is reaching maturity so is in his teenage rebel phase where he is testing the boundaries, not only with people but also with other dogs. He will need further social work with other dogs as he has missed out on lots being in kennels from a young age. Rosco could live with another dog but a strong mature female that could put up with his boisterous and sometimes unruly ways! Not compatible with cats and cannot live with young children, teenagers would be considered if they are used to dogs and could cope with him. Ideally Rosco needs experienced and dedicated owners who have owned German Shepherd types, Large breeds or rescue dogs before as he will need a lot of work to begin with. Rosco is a high energy doofus and will need to live in a semi-rural or rural location with low dog populated walking facilities as Rosco has a short concentration when there are other dogs around which would not help when you are training him. Rosco is a true rescue dog and really deserves a home with patient owners willing to put the time and effort in to him, he has spent most of his short life in kennels so will will require work and direction. If you are up for the challenges a rescue dog may throw at you then Rosco could be the dog for you, please don't hesitate in contacting the rehoming team at Old Windsor to find out more about this fantastic and rewarding dog.
