Rick is a four year old male Cocker Spaniel that arrived at Battersea as a stray in August 2007. He has already been neutered within the Home. Typical Spaniel, Rick loves having a good sniff about and is constantly on the go. A mature boy, he expects to be respected and can be a bit intolerant at times, but the right approach from new owners should ensure a strong bond is built. When this bond has been established owners will find Rick to be an affectionate and responsive dog although he will retain an independent side on him. Rick was referred to the Behaviour Unit in order for us to investigate his intolerance of handling and his possession issues around certian resources.
Rick is looking for:
- Active owners with experience of the breed or spaniels in general, and are looking for a companion to take for long walks
- As Rick can be vocal at times, he will need to be rehomed into a house as opposed to a flat
- A large secure garden to work on his recall, as with all these interesting smells outside, Rick can suffer from selective hearing
- A rural or semi-rural environment is essential for Rick
- Rick cannot live with another dog and will need to be rehomed into an environment that has a low dog population, and as he doesn't really enjoy their company
- No children or visiting children due to handling issues but older teens (14yrs +) may be considered
- Rick could live with a strong, mature, non-impressionable cat that is non-interactive and happy to keep to itself
