Poor Rex is not coping well in kennels and has had an unsettled time recently. His owner died and he was then transferred to local kennels until the police could find any family members, unfortunately none of the family members could keep Rex or his doggy friend so they came to Battersea to find a new home. As you can tell from the photos Rex has a bit of a weight problem but with the right exercise and diet plan he will eventually be a fairly light weight dog of approximately 18kg. Rex has already lost 3kg so is on his way to his target weight, his new owners must be prepared to continue helping him loose weight as he is actually playful and active but sadly can't keep up due to his weight and fitness levels. Rex will make a loving addition once settled and built a bond, he is a happy go lucky kind of dog and will be a joy to own.

Like most Collie types Rex loves a tennis ball, once he has lost more weight we are sure this will be his favourite game to play in the park, he loves to play fetch. Although Rex is not fit at the moment he will need active owners, once he has shed the pounds Rex will be a different dog requiring plenty of walks, stimulation and games to keep him happy and fit.

At present Rex cannot be left alone for long periods, he is used to having constant company so will need to get used to spending time on his own. previously housetrained and travels well in a car. Unfortunately Rex has not had any form of training so new owners must be prepared to dedicate time to this initially.

Rex is a friendly boy but has not had much contact with children so we feel he would be better to live with teenagers who can respect him and give him space when needed. He is social so should be fine to be around visiting children.

We are looking for owners with some doggy knowledge to start Rex's training and continue his weight loss plan. Rex can live in a small property but will need a garden, because of his current weight Rex cannot live in a flat above groundfloor as he would find the stairs too much at present.

Rex is social with other dogs and could potentially live with another dog but must be the right match for him as he can't cope with boisterous youngsters. Unknown if compatible with cats will need testing.

Rex is a super dog and just needs owners to look past his weight, once he has lost all the excess baggage he will be a fun and active dog. If you feel you can offer this wonderful dog the home he needs then please contact the rehoming team on 01784 494443.
