Paddy originally came to Battersea as a puppy with the rest of his litter in 2005, their owner could not cope with such a large litter so brought them to Battersea to find new homes. Paddy was quickly rehomed but sadly returned recently as his owners split up and had to move house.
Paddy has spent the majority of his life living in a rural location, he has mainly had free access to a large amount of land on a stable yard, spending his days following his owner around with the horses or playing in the fields with other dogs, at night time he would be curled up next to his owner, so he has had the best of both worlds.
This is all Paddy has known so coming back to Battersea is a very alien environment for him, he has found it very overwhelming and is stressed by the noise and confinement of kennel life compared to what he is used to! Due to this we are looking for a very special home for Paddy, his ideal home would be similar to what he has come from, a rural farm environment with plenty of space.
Paddy will need experienced dog owners ideally used to similar large guarding breeds e.g. Dobermann, German Shepherds, Rottweilers. New owners will need to be confident and able to handle a large and strong dog, he has many traits of a German Shepherd so needs owners who can understand his needs and traits.
Paddy has been well socialised with horses and large livestock but will chase and hunt smaller animals so unfortunately he cannot live with cats or small pets. In his previous home Paddy was social and friendly with all visitors to the yard, including other dogs and children but since his arrival to kennels Paddy has shown a very nervous and anxious side around strangers.
Due to the nervous behaviours we have seen we are looking for a home where there are no young children, an adult only household is needed to continue his training. Paddy could possibly live with a mature adult female with no behaviour problems that will be a positive role-model and friend. In his previous home Paddy was housetrained, had basic commands in place, traveled well in a car and could be left for short periods with no problems.
Although Paddy has shown some nervous behaviours he has also shown a very loving and loyal nature, once bonded Paddy is really affectionate and loves nothing more than having his tummy tickled. In the right environment and with some patience and understanding Paddy will make a great addition and companion.
