Otto arrived at Battersea as a stray so we do not have any history on this handsome boy. Akitas are powerful and large dogs, they were bred for hunting, tracking, pulling sledges and to be a protective family companion. Otto is typical of the breed, he is friendly, loyal and intelligent but he also has an aloof edge.
Akitas are strong and often have dominant characters, they do not make ideal dogs for first time dog owners. Otto is looking for an experienced owner, ideally someone that has owned an Akita or similar large breed. Otto already knows a few commands and is a trainable dog, Akitas can be stubborn so patience is needed in training.
Otto is social with other dogs and fairly tolerant, he ideally needs a home without another dog but could possibly live with a female dog. Unknown if compatible with cats but due to their strong hunting instincts Akitas are not normally good with small pets. Being a large dog Otto is looking for a large home & secure garden with plenty of space.
Once settled Otto could be left for short periods, he is happy to relax after a good walk and will amuse himself with a tasty chewy bone. Due to his unknown past Otto cannot live with young children, teenagers upwards only.
Otto is a great dog and once bonded he will make a loving and loyal comapnion in the right home. If you feel you can offer this super dog the home he needs please contact the rehoming team at Old Windsor on 01784 494443 or come in for a registration interview.
