Marvin arrived at Battersea as a stray so we have no information about his past, he is not coping well in the kennel environment and is highly stressed. Marvin is a strong willed character who likes being around people but also has an independent side. We are looking for experienced rescue dog owners or people that have owned similar feisty Terriers before, he is not suitable for 1st time dog owners or the less active home wanting a lapdog companion.

Border Terriers were bred to hunt foxes and other animals classed as vermin, they should be capable of following a horse all day and still be fresh enough to then chase the fox, this will give you an idea of the energy levels and stamina of this breed. They are essentially a working Terrier but are now the one of the most popular Terrier breeds in peoples homes today. With the correct guidance Border Terriers can make loyal and loving pets but will usually retain strong hunting instincts.

Marvin like most Terriers is highly intelligent and enjoys learning but does have a stubborn side so needs a firm and consistent approach to his training. It appears that he has little or no training in the past so new owners must be prepared to start this from scratch, this may include housetraining. Marvin loves nothing more than chasing and smelling when outside so new owners will need to dedicate time to recall as he will need plenty of mental and physical stimulation to keep him happy and well behaved.

Unfortunately Marvin cannot live with other dogs or children, he is obsessed by food and toys and does not wish to share them. It is unknown if he is cat friendly but due to chase and hunting instincts most Terriers are not sociable with smaller pets unless they have been brought up with them. Once settled Marvin could be left for short periods but if bored or left for too long he may find his own amusement. Due to his high energy levels and intelligence Marvin would make an ideal dog for agility, flyball or similar doggy sports.
