Poor Ronnie is yet another Greyhound at Battersea looking for a loving home. Ronnie is a typical Greyhound as he is gentle, mostly laid back, loving and will be a great companion once settled. Being an ex-racing dog Ronnie has never been in a home environment so may take time to adjust to his new surroundings and he will need to be housetrained. Greyhounds are normally fairly quick to be clean but owners will need to initially be vigilant and dedicate time to their training.

Ronnie loves food and will steal and scavenge, never being in a home environement you will need to teach him what is his food and what is yours. As he is an ex-racing dog Ronnie has never had a toy so is unsure what to do but with encouragement this will come. Like most Greyhounds Ronnie has lived a sheltered life and only mixed with other Greyhounds in the past, he is fairly social with other dogs of a similar size but smaller fast moving dogs trigger his natural chase instinct. He will need to be muzzled if off lead in the park to protect small fluffy animals and wildlife. He could possibly live with another similar sized female but cannot live with a cat.

Ronnie does not require heaps of exercise and two 30 minute walks on lead a day would be sufficient, although he would happily do more. As he may not be able to have lots of off lead exercise in the park he will need a secure garden to run around in. Training is needed particularly recall so owners must be happy to start this, although most Greyhounds will never be obedience champions so patience is needed while training. Ideally Ronnie needs experienced dog owners, experience or knowledge of Greyhounds or sighthounds would be an advantage but not essential. Cannot live with young children, teenagers only who can give him space and time on his own when needed. Once fully housetrained and settled Ronnie needs to learn to be left on his own so will need owners around the majority of the time to help with this.

He is very much a people loving dog and may not like being left for long periods. Most Greyhounds will settle very quickly and if given a comfy bed or sofa and a good walk before hand they will usually put up with being on their own for a while. If you think this gorgeous boy is the dog for you then please contact the rehoming team at Old Windsor on 01784 494443.
