Joey is a 1 year old neutered male Yorkshire Terrier who came into Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in July 2007 as a stray. Clever and resourceful, Joey is an extremely confident little dog with an inflated ego. He really likes interacting with people, and believes they should always respond to his every wish. If this doesn't happen, Joey will throw tantrums and can be extremely vocal. He spent some time with the Behaviour Unit in the Home to investigate issues related to his high status character, especially toy and food possession. However, he responds well to people with a "down to earth attitude", and this coupled with perfect consistency will help him overcome his bad habits, and reach his full potential. Full of character, Joey will be a very likable and highly entertaining companion.
Joey is looking for:
- Owners who have owned high status young dogs (ideally Terriers type) before, and know how to manage and maintain them in a home environment.
- An active home where owners have the time to invest in training him and keep him mentally and physically stimulated. Activities like agility would be ideal
- A large house with a garden in a semi rural or rural environment. If he is to live in a flat, his tendency to be vocally demanding for attention will need to be considered.
- An adult household without any children due to his character. Older teenagers may be considered depending on their expectations
- Ideally, Joey will be rehomed as an only dog, but a confident, high status female may be considered. She would have to be able to physically cope with him if necessary, as he would try to boss her around.
