Harry is a highly strung and energetic youngster needing dedicated and patient owners prepared for a true rescue dog. This will be his 2nd visit to Battersea in his short life so far, this must be his last as he does not cope well in the kennel environment and gets very stressed. Harry is like most Hounds, independent, persistent and intensely loyal. Harry is an affectionate lad but also very boisterous and eager to please. Essentialy his breed type is a working dog and will need active owners to provide the exercise he craves to keep him physically and mentally happy. Harry loves to run and has a strong instinct to hunt, he will need a large and secure garden for burn offs and owners will need to continue the recall training needed before allowing him off lead in open spaces. Harry is not happy to be left on his own at present and will need owners around the majority of the time to help him learn. Harry would benefit from living with another dog, hounds are generally pack animals and will often prefer to have canine company. If bored they can be destructive or prone to digging in the garden. Harry has already had some basic training and his previous owners really did dedicate time to this, he is highly intelligent and very trainable so could easily learn more commands or tricks if owners are willing to put the time and effort in to this. Not compatible with cats or other small animals. Harry is a large and strong boy but has been used to being walked on a headcollar which he has taken too very well, he is well behaved when using this and should be fairly easy for the whole family to walk. Harry does have his scatty and boisterous moments so we feel he would be better living with teenagers, being a social lad he would be fine around younger visiting kids. Harry does need experienced rescue or hound owners to be able to cope with him and his hound traits. In the right environment he will be a joy to own, understanding and a good sense of humour is needed. Ideally Harry needs to live in a semi-rural or rural location, he is a big boy and needs space. Previously housetrained and travels well in a car. If you love a challenge or are used to stubborn Hounds then Harry could be the dog for you, please contact the rehoming team at Old Windsor to find out more on 01784 494443.
