Dough is a large mongrel and is still very juvenile in his behaviours, he is still young and may take time to mature. He arrived at Battersea as a stray in February and sadly isn't coping well in the kennel environment, he is very active and wants constant attention from people. Dough is a comical character and will make you laugh, he has endless energy and just wants to play and run! Being a young dog he still may grow some more so owners will need a large house and garden to accommodate him, ideally he needs to live in semi-rural or rural area as he is not a city dog. Dough does need experienced, confident and strong owners who can cope with his strength and hooligan moments! If you have owned large breeds before you will understand what we mean. Being a stray we don't know much about Dough so new owners must be prepared for all settling in, housetraining and further basic training. During his stay at Battersea the kennel staff have been doing some training with him, he is very intelligent but cannot always focus for too long. Dough is trainable and with time and patience he should blossom in to a great young adult but he will need the work to be put in first. With such a zest for life Dough can be a bit over enthusiastic with people he meets and other dogs, he is almost too friendly but he needs to learn some manners because not everyone loves a 25-30kg dog leaping on them for a fuss! Dough is strong on the lead but is currently learning to walk nicely with the aid of a head collar, he does have the odd tantrum but is generally improving everyday and is so much easier to control. Dough is a young dog who loves people he will need owners who are around the majority of the day as he is likely to be destructive if bored or left for too long. As Dough needs one to one work we feel he should not live with another dog or cats, he would be too much for most other animals to cope with all day. This is not to say he could not live with another dog in the future when he is more mature and older. Ideally Dough needs an all adult household but he could possibly live with older teenagers who were sturdy and not intimidated by his size, strength and hooligan moments!
