Chip came to Battersea as a puppy. He was having problems with the young children in the household so his owners brought him in. He was about 3 months of age when he arrived and went straight to the rehabilitation department for training.
Chip has behavioural issues but with time, effort and consistency from new owners he should be able to work though these problems. To help, our rehab team have put together a programme for when you take him home. This programme needs to be followed for some time so new owners have to be patient.
Chip has fabulous food and toy motivations (which significantly helps with training) but needs to be controlled. He enjoys interacting with people but is easily over stimulated, so interactions need to be calm and controlled.
He needs regular socialising with other dogs who are confident & mature and won't take his nonsense. Initial introductions need to be observed to prevent Chip from becoming over excited or a bully.
Chips owners need to be patient and have experience with large breeds of dogs and possibly experience of behavioural problems. They also need to have realistic expectations of the time and effort required for his training. He needs a large home, outside London with access to parks or fields to allow Chip to exercise off lead, with no cats as chip is not suitable to live with them and only older teenaged children in the home.
