Barney is a two-year-old male mongrel that came into Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as a stray in January 2007. Barney is already neutered. Barney was referred to the Behaviour Unit so we could further investigate his separation issues and his lack of focus. Barney has shown himself to be responsive to training and owners must be willing to continue this training at home.

Barney is looking for:

• Owners who are experienced with larger breeds,


• Owners with experience in dealing with separation or attention-seeking issues would be preferable,


• Needs a multi-carer household where his time alone can be built up gradually from Day 1.


• Could only live with teen-aged children who could cope with his physicality and aid in his training program,


• Owners who are prepared for training


• He can live in any environment, from rural to urban, but he can be vocal when left alone so could not live in an apartment.


• Needs a garden for burn-offs, initial training and mental stimulation,


• He could live with a mature, confident female who can keep his interaction under control and encourage more acceptable play behaviour.

Barney is a consistently happy dog. He may not be the brightest spark but he has a great eagerness to please and is very affectionate with people. Barney's willingness to learn will help new owners when training him. Calmness and consistency with Barney will be rewarded with a cheery and loving companion.
