Jock was brought to Battersea by his owners as their young son had asthma and the doctor advised to rehome the cat. His owners had him since he was a kitten during which he lived with other cats and children, he could live with children again as he is so laid back and enjoys any attention. In his previous home Jock was described as a soppy and affectionate cat who also enjoys peace and quiet to sleep.
Unfortunately Jock has feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), this virus depletes the number of white blood cells which eventually makes the cat less able to fight off infections. However this is a slow acting virus and many FIV positive cats can live a normal life and lifespan. FIV is species specific so it cannot be transmitted to humans or other animals, only to other cats so Jock cannot live with another cat.
FIV cannot be transmitted indirectly, such as via bowls, clothes, hands or shoes, new owners will not be able to pass this virus on to other cats. Due to the virus Jock will need to be an indoor cat so he will not come in direct contact with other cats. If you feel you can offer a new home to this adorable boy or any other of our FIV positive cats please contact the rehoming team at Old Windsor on 01784 494443.
*Any potential new owners of our special FIV positive cats will need to speak to one of our veterinary surgeons for more detailed information regarding this feline virus*
