There they sit, our marvellous old mogs, our fab old fluffies, optimistically peering out of their pens as people approach only to have their hopes dashed time and again as they hear the dreaded refrain: "No, that one's too old."

There should be no such thing as too old, whether you are human, feline, canine or anything else.

Consider the advantages to having an older cat: they are less likely to go out and play with the traffic, they won't swing off your curtains or scoot up the chimney, they don't need you to run round the house with a feather on a string, they are usually more than happy to sit on your lap for as long as you want them to and they are deeply appreciative of having a stable and loving retirement home.

It is a myth that older cats cannot readily adapt to a new home environment; these guys are seasoned troopers who have seen many changes during their lives and they tend to be fairly relaxed about whatever fate holds in store for them.

So, next time you come to visit us, please stop and say hello to our Golden Girls and Diamond Geezers. All our young cats need good homes too, and it is completely understandable if you would prefer to rehome one of those - just don't let the others hear you say that they're "too old."
