Chip came to Battersea as a puppy. He was having problems with the young children he lived with so his owners decided to bring him into us. He was about 3 months of age when he arrived and due to certain behaviours he showed he came down to the rehabilitation department for training and for us to really understand what he was like.
Chip has quite a few behavioural issues but with time, effort and consistency from his new owners they should be able to help him work though these problem behaviours. To help you our rehab team have put together a program of advice on how to help Chip for when you get him home, this program will need to be followed for a long time so new owners will need to be patient.
Chip has fabulous food and toy motivations (which will help in training) but they need to be controlled. He enjoys interacting with people but can become easily over stimulated so, again these interactions need to be kept calm and controlled.
Chip hates being groomed so this should be practised on a regular basis with his new owners. He needs regular socialising with other dogs, which are confident & mature who won't take any of his nonsense. Initial introductions will need to be observed to prevent Chip from becoming over stimulated or possibly becoming a bully.
Chips owners will need to be patient and have experience with large breeds of dogs and have experience of over coming some behavioural problems with there own dogs.
Have realistic expectations of the amount of time and effort that will be needed for his training. He will need a large home situated out of London, with access to parks or fields to allow chip to exercise off lead, with no cats, as chip is not suitable to live with them and only older teenaged children living there.
