Cat Foster Scheme
Why?
We do everything possible to make life easy for the cats in our care. However, some cats, such as nursing mums and kittens and cats with certain medical problems are facing a relatively long stay in this busy and potentially stressful environment.
It is particularly important that kittens are regularly handled and that they are exposed at an early age to a normal home environment so that they will develop into confident and sociable adult cats.
In addition, we need foster homes for cats who:- have minor medical problems
- are too stressed to show their true selves
- are particularly timid
- are elderly and in need of some home comforts
- are looking at a lengthy stay for other reasons
Cats like:
Samuel
who has had a prolonged bout of cat flu and needs to go into a foster home to help him recover.
Marbles
who has had her rear right leg amputated and needs gentle exercise to build up her strength.
Moses
who has a stress-related skin condition which is not improving in a kennel environment.
Smudge & her kittens
Smudge is a good young mum who would much prefer to bring up her babies in the comfort of a home.
Are you a calm person who can offer a cat a safe and peaceful home, but are unable to make a permanent commitment because you do not have a garden or because you travel abroad or for some other reason?
We are looking for volunteer Foster Carers who have:- experience of caring for cats
- a quiet spare room for a needy cat
- no young children under the age of ten
- the mobility to travel to and from Battersea
- the patience to handle a stressed or nervous cat
- the common sense not to become too emotionally involved
- the ability to report back on the cat's progress.
Can anyone become a cat Foster Carer?
At present, due to the exceptional response that we have had, we are only accepting applications from people who are not out for a full working day. Currently, we particularly need foster homes for nursing mums and kittens
