Why insure your cat or dog?
Your dog or cat is your friend for life, and naturally you'll want your relationship to be a long and healthy one. As a caring owner you'll want to make sure your pet can have the veterinary treatment they need, as often as they need it. When you consider that one in three cats and dogs need some kind of attention from the vet every year of their lives - that could prove to be expensive.
You would never want to deny your pet the professional medical care they need, should they fall ill or have an accident, but vet care, especially emergency care, can be very expensive. To help you protect your pet - and your pocket - there are many pet insurance products on the market. Insurance cover can take some of the stress out of visits to the vet, knowing that there's help in covering the bill.

Do you still need convincing?
Here are just a few examples of accidents that dogs have needed veterinary treatment for, and how much it cost.
Sandy, an eight year old Boxer was taken to the vet because of accidental alcohol intoxication. His treatment cost 151.40
Albert, a four month old German Shepherd climbed on to a dining-room table, then stole and ate a bottle of his owner's sleeping tablets. The emergency vet care cost 165.10
Milo, a one year old German Shepherd ate some poisonous berries while out on a walk, that caused vomiting and upset stomach. His care cost 86.13
Fred, an 11 year old Yorkie, jumped into pond to pinch a fisherman's bait;
he managed to swallow the fishhook and line as well, which got stuck in his stomach. His vet said, "this was a traumatic operation to remove the fishhook, but Fred has a great will to live". The emergency vet treatment cost 390.46.
Haggis, another 11 year old, but a Westie this time, fell down his neighbour's vehicle inspection pit. He was found after three days when the neighbours fortunately returned from holiday in Cornwall and heard whimpering from the pit. Haggis suffered hypothermia, lung congestion and his front claws were worn down from trying to clamber out. His owners suffered the cost of 211.20 worth of vets treatment.
