Nothing brings greater joy to the staff at The Dogs Home
than the sight of Battersea dogs and cats leaving the Home
happy with their new owners.

Longstayer Major Rehomed.

I'm sure you've all seen our "Longstayers" on our website. Well, good news! Major the German Shepherd cross who has been at the Home since September 1997 has been rehomed. His new owners saw him on our website and thought they'd come to Battersea to meet him. At first they came without their own dog Les, a lovely German Shepherd who they rehomed from us in February 1998, because they wanted to see if Major liked them first and of course vice versa. Major seemed to get on with them straight away, especially their son - they spent two hours playing together! That was the first obstacle, the next one was to bring Les with them for the most important meeting - him and Major. Luckily they seemed to get on and much to Major's delight they all went home that very day.

Major is our first dog to be rehomed from the Battersea website and we hope he'll be the first of many.

Letter from...Totem's owners

During her stay at Battersea, Totem had very bad kennel cough and got very depressed, so Tove, who works at The Home had her in her office to try and cheer her up. This certainly worked, she was such a sweet dog and we all ended up falling in love with her. She was rehomed to a lovely family in Essex, who have sent us photos and a letter, which said: "Totem has really settled in, she loves going for a run over the field behind our house, she likes going out in the car, I think it's because she knows that we are not going to leave her. She's putting on a bit of weight which makes her look a bit healthier. Everybody thinks she is lovely, she's been getting lots of love".

Letter from...Jock's owners

"We recently adopted a dog from you, Jock, a Yorkshire terrier cross, we just wanted to send you a photo of him, and tell you how wonderful he is. He thoroughly enjoys his walks and has learnt a new trick, of jumping up so high, he jumps into peoples arms. He is also such a baby he just lays in your arms and fall asleep. His favourite person in the morning is the post lady who greets Jockey with a doggy treat. Anyway I just wanted to write and thank you so very much for bringing us together."

Letter from...Jodie's owners

"This is our attention seeking, jealous and fun-loving Jodie. We don't know if we own her or if she owns us, as she thinks our chairs are hers! So she gets lots of cuddles and wears us out across the park playing ball, but we wouldn't be without her. Everyone who see's her want to take her home and say this must be third time lucky for her, as she has had two homes before us. Thank you" The Spellars

Letter from...Jack

"Just thought that I would paws a while and drop you a line. I had been with you for almost 4 months and had been quite ill in my time, a sorry tail you must agree, but you looked after me very well and made me better. I may not have all of my 9 lives left, but I am sure that I am going to enjoy the ones I have left with my new family. I have made plenty of new friends, there is a dog, rabbit and, of a particular interest to me are the 2 hamsters. All the attention I am getting is just purrrfect, lots of cuddles, loads of grooming and huge amounts of food MMMmmm, just how I like it! So tell all the others to keep their spirits up, carry on cleaning behind their ears and making themselves look smart and feline great, because I hope that the home they all deserve could be just the next visitor away."

Letter from...Charlie's owners

"We got Charlie from you a few months ago. He is absolutely gorgeous, he has such a strong personality and is very much part of the family as you can see!" Best wishes The Spencer family

Letter from...Guiness

Guiness was one of our "longstayers" at Battersea, she had been at the home for over a year, before she appeared on PET RESCUE, luckily for her that evening Gary and Claire were watching with their two dogs, Hawksbee and Mackenzie, they all decided they wanted to rehome Guiness, so we let them and after 3 months in her new home she has written to let us know how she is getting on. "I think I've now been accepted by Mackenzie and Hawksbee, although Hawksbee still doesn't like me jumping on her from great heights, or at great speed. Some dogs are no fun! The only problem Mum and Dad have is my breaking into the larder, I can't understand why! I did it the other day. Mum got home to find me and my fat barrel tummy conked out on the sofa, half a bag of Winalot complete inside. The spoiltsport phoned Dad and asked him to buy some locks for the door on the way home. So that has finished that for good. And they changed the bin to one with a lockable lid, so I can't eat rubbish anymore. I'll waste away soon! Well got to go........Mum's lap is empty and I'm sure I'm needed to sit on it! Wags and licks, Guiness"
