Nothing brings greater joy to the staff at The Dogs Home
than the sight of Battersea dogs and cats leaving the Home
happy with their new owners.

L etter from.... Bonnie's owners.

"I'm just writing to let you know how Bonnie our deaf white English Bull Terrier is getting on, she came to you as a stray, her nails were in such bad condition they had grown into her pads. She has settled in very well and isn't as much work as we thought she would be being deaf. We can let her off the lead now and she stays next to us, when she does wander off she keeps looking round to make sure we're still there. She gets on brilliantly with our Staffy, they are like sisters and snuggle up to each other at night. She also likes the cats, but they don't like her very much. The kids love her to bits and she loves them too. She's a great dog, very loving and caring, a bit greedy with her food, but what can you expect from a stray! We are so pleased with her and are so glad that we are the ones who gave her a home."

Letter from... Indiana's and Higgin's Owners

"I thought you might be interested to learn the development of two of your inmates. Indiana, the quite beautiful German Shepherd, came to live with us about three and a half years ago. During this time she developed into a fabulous specimen. She was the runt of the litter and is still really very small. She is gentle and loving and we are very proud of her. She is the ultimate Battersea Babe. Higgins the Heinz dog came to stay last Easter. He had been living rough for some time, he was quite thin and disheveled with lots of bald spots. Nonetheless, we thought he would make a good friend for Indiana. The two have become inseparable. Higgins has got much bigger all over, his fur is thick and shiny and all the bald spots have gone. He is a fabulous character, and regularly steals fruit from the bowl for his love Indiana. Higgins is more of a biscuit man. The week before we took Indiana, our first Battersa dog, Hastings, sadly died of cancer at the age of 13, we had only lived with him for a year, but it was truly heartbreaking. We believe without a shadow of a doubt that Higgins is Hastings reincarnate, he does everything, in every way that Hastings did, including stealing Jaffa cakes! Thanks for letting us take Indiana and Higgins, they are a joy and are our very best friends."

Letter from... Potter's owners

" Here are the photos of Potter in his new home. I do hope you like them and approve of his new home! He is the most clever little cat an absolute cracker. Full of life, endlessly playing and the most affectionate cat you could ever meet. Always wanting to press noses and likes riding on our shoulders. So far he has been stung by a wasp on his paw (he was playing with it at the time) which blew up, so he was rushed to the vet. He has been stuck up a tree 3 times, twice I've had to climb onto a roof to get him, and once climb 20ft up on an extending ladder into a swaying tree. Potter has the dogs totally under control, and they are very good with him. This little cat is a delight."

Letter from... Jaffa's owner

"The recent television programme has spurred my on to let you know about Jaffa, my Battersea dog who I had from you in November 1991. When you had him he was called "Honda", he was about 6-7 months old and had been a stray. He had a note on his kennel saying that he was a very naughty dog and could only go to an experienced owner. I was lucky as I had owned and trained dogs since about 1970. Well, he will be 8 this year and has been a lovely dog full of life and, although a little stubborn at times, very obedient and affectionate and follows me everywhere. I renamed him Jaffa because he was so orange. We do both obedience and agility and he has won me many rosettes. He is also a great hit with both adults and children when we do demonstrations for school fetes etc. He gets on well with my other two dogs, both Border Collies, Barney who is almost 15 but still active and Taz who I rescued this summer from Border Collie Rescue, aged three. They get lots of lovely walks and Jaffa jumps in every pond, lake and stream he finds unless I get in first with a "no"! too cold this weather! They have a dog door into the 100ft garden so life isn't so bad for them."

A card from... Brandi

"Hope you all like the photo of me in my new home with Paris my best friend. I came to live here in July 1997. When I lived with you my name was Daniel. Thank you so much for finding me a really nice family. I'm loved very much and seem to make everyone around me very happy."

Letter from... Bilbo

"I was only with you for a few weeks you described me as an "independent older man, set in his ways and happy to amuse himself" I obviously had you all fooled! Anyway on 21 November 1998 I chose my new owners Kath & Pete. I settled in straight away the cats were a bit put out and we chose to ignore each other after Rosie scratched my nose. I am really a big softie and soon found the delights of sitting on Kath's lap. It has not all been plain sailing. I missed Christmas as I was in hospital (intensive care) suffering from Gastro-enteritis. Everyone was in a real panic about me but I am tough and back home again. I really think I am lucky with my new people they love me as much as I love them so we all count ourselves very lucky. Thank you for helping me find a new home."
Lots of Love
Bilbo
