At any one time we have up to 400 dogs and 100 cats looking for good homes.

There are some however , who would make lovely pets, yet sadly are overlooked time after time. There seems to be no particular reason for this ....it could just be to do with the colour of their coat, or perhaps they bark or miaow more than others, or perhaps its just because they're shy.

The following dogs and cats have been with us for over a year and are desperate for good homes with loving owners.

If you are looking to rehome a dog or a cat, please do consider one of our longer staying guests. You will make both them, and us at The Dogs Home, very happy indeed.

Also in this section, more about rehoming, happy stories from happy dogs and their owners and stories about Battersea Dogs that have gone on to achieve great things.

Long stay dogs looking for a home

Tasmin

I arrived at Battersea on 18th February 2001.
My dog number is 01/01161.
I am a 3-5 year old female tan and white lurcher.
I am an affectionate, confident girl with a high chase drive. I am very trainable and very good fun. I am food motivated and do have some interest in toys. I am very good on handling and am good with other dogs but do have a tendency to chase because of my breed. I may have some over-bonding and separation issues. My new home will need to be quiet and semi rural with access to very quiet and open areas. I need ground rules from day one with children of 8+. I am not for cats and need an experienced and multi-carer household.

I've been Re-Homed!
David

I arrived at Battersea on 10th December 2000.
My dog number is 00/8604.
I am handsome 1 - 2 year old greyhound.
I am very friendly and bouncy and into everything. I will need some house training and could possibly be destructive when left alone so my new owners will need to dedicate lots of training to me. The use of kong's and activity balls are highly recommended. I am into my food in a big way so this can be used as part of my training too. Lots of practice on recall will be necessary and a muzzle is a must when out and about. I have been here a long time now and have been told many times what a great chap I am!

Chloe

I arrived at Battersea on 29th May 2001.
My dog number is 01/3616.
I am lovely, active 6 - 12 month old black mongrel.
I am always on the go and can be a pushy madam so my new owners will need to have experience and be on the ball! I love to be the centre of attention and will need owners who are prepared for training. I am good with other dogs and need a semi-rural environment with a multi-carer household. I can live with teens.

Tramp

I arrived at Battersea on 8th August 2001.
My dog number is 01/20377.
I am a lovely 1 - 2 year old tan and white terrier type.
I can be quite an independent terrier who loves the attention of people. I can get frustrated and vocal towards other dogs on the lead. My new owners will need to work with toys and treats to motivate me. I need a semi-rural home and my new owners will have previous terrier experience. I can live with children over the age of 10.

I've been Re-Homed!
Mollie

I arrived at Battersea on 10 June 2001.
My dog number is 01/03930.
I am a 6 - 12 month old border collie.
I am bright, mischievous and have attitude! I have all the collie traits, high arousal and chase. I need lots of mental and physical stimulation and I have been told I am a very quick learner. I love my toys and food so this can be used as a motivator when training. I love attention and interaction but on my terms! I am good with other dogs.

I've been Re-Homed!
Bronson

I arrived at Battersea on 3rd November.
My dog no is 01/07307.
I am a 6 - 12 month old German Shepherd.
I broke my leg in the past and now have had to have it removed. Unfortunately for me any potential owners keep walking straight past because of this. I am still a playful active youngster and will manage fine on 3 legs. I love people and other dogs and will be an entertaining and highly affectionate friend. I am a really happy, fun, enthusiastic dog and am very eager to please, all in all I am an overgrown pup! It would really cheer me up and help me get over my operation if I get a loving home. Could you provide a special home for a special boy like me?

Chesky

I arrived at Battersea on 20 November 2000.
My dog number is 00/8084.
I am a 7 year old Border Collie cross.
I am a sharp and confident middle aged lass with very strong Border Collie traits. I have high chase, round-up and can nip in play! I love the tennis ball retrieve game. My handling needs to be built up gradually. I could live with another dog but it would have to be a submissive male in a large home. I need a rural, rustic environment with no livestock, children, or cats. I am looking for a mature household with experienced owners. I am a very enjoyable but strong character!

Nyles

I arrived at Battersea on 23rd August 2001.
My dog number is 01/05676.
I am an 8 month old GSD X.
I am a lovely boy with a few problems that I am sure will be ironed out in my new home. My new owners will need to be very dedicated to my ongoing training with lots of advice from our team here at the Home. I am not for children.

Harry

I arrived at Battersea on 21st September.
My dog number is 01/6458.
I am a 2 3 year old male SBT.
I am looking for big strong owners as who can handle me with interactions involving other dogs and toys as I can be a pushy chap. Toy control is a must with me. I am a lovely sweet boy with a heart of gold who is very eager to please with endless amounts of good vibes and energy but I really need to find the right owners who can offer me the special home I am looking for.

Rik

I arrived at Battersea on 28th July 2001.
My dog number is 01/15784.
I am a 5 - 7 year old male Rottweiler X.
I am a lovely chap with an even bigger heart! I am very friendly and should make a great companion for a new family. Experienced owners are needed and an active household who are committed to ongoing training. I am not for young children due to my size! I love toys and food and these can be used for all my training. I am good with other dogs but must be kept well socialised.

Akisha

I arrived at Battersea in September 2001.
My dog number is 01/06060
I am a six month old pretty German Shepherd.
I am desperately looking for a home with good German Shepherd experience. I am highly trainable, good with other dogs and can certainly live with another one but I cannot live with cats as I was brought in because I wasn't getting on with the cat in my last home. I am a very bright and responsive girl who responds well to training. I do however have some nervous issues with strangers, which will need some work. My potential new owners must be prepared to follow advice from our team here to iron out these issues and also have good training knowledge as I am chase motivated and will need my owners to be able to control me when I am off the lead around other dogs and people. My new home must be a rural environment.
All in all, I am a affectionate, bright and loyal dog who will be a very rewarding companion in the right home.

Richard

I arrived at Battersea in October 2001.
My dog number is 01/06801.
I am a handsome four year old German Shepherd.
I was originally brought in to Battersea because my owners were moving abroad. I am a happy boy around people I know, but can be nervous of strangers. My new owners will have to socialise me around people to help me overcome my problem. I will be loyal once bonded with my owners but could overbond, possibly leading to separation issues. I can also whine when ignored! I am very strong on the lead so my new owners must be strong, confident and experienced with my breed. I love balls and will need plenty of constructive mental and physical stimulation.
Committed and understanding owners are desperately needed to work through my settling in issues. In return I will be a loyal and affectionate companion.
